Chinese Vice Premier LI Keqiang Visits USTC

Chinese Vice Premier LI Keqiang visited the University of Science and Technology of China during an inspection tour in Hefei on July 5, 2011, accompanied by the Governor of Anhui Province, ZHANG Baoshun, and the President of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS),  BAI Chunli. 

LI visited Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale (HFNL) , and met some university leaders, some academicians and professors of Thousand Talents Program, and listened to the introduction of USTC in many aspects, such as the development, discipline construction, talents cultivation and scientific research. LI praised the great achievements got by USTC in schooling and scientific innovation.

In Prof. PAN Jianwei's lab of Quantum Physics and Quantum Information, LI gave high praise for Chinese scientists' achievements and also tried the new telephone call through the quantum technology with great interests.

Then, Premier LI visited the School for the Gifted Young(SGY), which is the most famous mode in China even around the world. He discussed with those young college students with the age of 13-17, and encouraged them to work hard for the future, and for the society. LI praised SGY highly as the first and unique education mode for the gifted young in China and wish to explore a new way for top-talents in future, and for future.

When LI came to the Statue of GUO Moruo, the first president of USTC,  and the Monument of School Ethos, A Departure Ceremony was held for the 13th volunteer graduates' team of the Volunteer Teaching Program, which will pursue one-year volunteer teaching in Haiyuan, Ningxia, a poor and water-shortage county located in the west of China. LI shook hands and talked amiably with the volunteer students, and autographed with the encouraging words "Volunteering Service, Serving the Society".

Informed of LI's inspection at USTC, many students converged on GUO Moruo Square and gave their warm welcome. Presented a USTC badge by one of students, LI smiled: "Having this badge, now I am also a member of USTC, which we all be proud of."
