Personal Profile

XIE Yi, born in July 1967, is a professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Chemistry and Materials Science, University of Science and Technology of China.

Educational Background and Scientific Research Experience:

In 1988, she graduated from Xiamen University with a Bachelor's degree, and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1996. Upon graduation, she joined the Department of Chemistry at USTC as a faculty member. She also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She was promoted to a professor after receiving the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 1998, and was appointed as a Distinguished Professor under the Changjiang Scholars Program of the Ministry of Education in 2000. Since 2009, she has served as the Chair of the Academic Committee of the School of Chemistry and Materials Science. In 2013, she was elected to Chinese Academy of Sciences, and in 2015 elected as a fellow of the World Academy of Sciences.

Major Academic Contributions:

Prof. XIE Yi has been engaged in the research of inorganic solid chemistry for 30 years. Her scientific contributions are summarized in the related aspects:

1).Established the solvothermal preparation method for non-oxide materials, which earned the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award in 2001 (as the second contributor).

2). Established the methodology “synergetic use of binary characteristic structures” for the synthesis and assembly of inorganic functional materials, which earned the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award in 2012 (as the first contributor).

3). Proposed the strategy for modulating the electron and phonon transport properties with phase transitions at the nanoscale, and developed new high-efficiency thermoelectric materials systems.

4). Clarified the clear structure-activity relationship in important energy conversion processes, such as photo/electric catalysis and thermoelectric conversion, of two-dimensional semiconductor crystals, providing a material basis for the design of new materials in related fields.

The relevant achievements have been included in the China's Top 10 Science Advances and twice in the “Major Achievements on Huge Basic Infrastructure of Science and Technology” by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). She has published about published over 400 SCI papers, including more than 10 in Nature and its sub-journals, and over 90 in top chemistry journals (J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Mater.) as a corresponding author. Her publications have been extensively cited by more than 60000 times by the international research colleagues with an H index of 136 and more than 70 papers selected as Top 1% ISI Highly Cited Papers. She is consistently listed in Clarivate's Highly Cited Researchers and Elsevier's Highly Cited Chinese Researchers.

Project Undertook:

She ever undertook major projects including the Major Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Key Research Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Innovative Research Group Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Key Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Key Research Program and Directional Project of Frontier Sciences of Chinese Academy of Sciences, et al.
